half Marathon

The Half Marathon can be a step up to the full distance or a great goal in itself, and walkers are welcome.

It takes in 21.1k of the same flat, fast and scenic tour of iconic landmarks such as Hagley Park, the Christchurch Town Hall, Canterbury Museum and Avon River. As NZ's fastest course, Christchurch is the place to be for a PB & the distance is certified to IAAF & AIMS standard.

  • The Half Marathon course will be two laps of the following subject to council approval:

     Starting on Rolleston Ave, the course heads south for 500m to Cambridge Terrace.

     Veer left and follow Cambridge Terrace around toward Durham Street.

     Follow Cambridge Terrace north into Durham Street and turn right into Gloucester Street.

     Cross the Avon River, veer left into Oxford Terrace towards Armagh Street.

     Turn right into Armagh Street, then left into Colombo Street.

     Turn left and heading west now, follow Kilmore Street to Montreal Street.

     Keeping Cranmer Square on your right, run clockwise around the square returning to Kilmore Street.

     Turn right and head east now along Kilmore Street all the way to the eastern end of Oxford Terrace, where you turn left to follow a

    cycle path anti-clockwise around to Barbados Street where you turn right.

     Head north on Barbados Street for 100m, turn left into Salisbury Street then left into Madras Street and right into Peterborough Street.

     Follow Peterborough Street west to Park Terrace, then turn right and head north to Harper Ave.

     Turn left over the bridge and follow Harper Ave for approximately 1.1km. The route then veers left into Hagley Park, and follows the

    cycle path anti-clockwise around the outside of the park to the corner of Deans Ave and Riccarton Ave.

     At Riccarton Ave, turn left into the central cycle path toward Victoria Lake.

     Keeping Victoria Lake on your right, continue straight ahead on the central cycle path heading towards the Armagh Street Bridge.

     On the final lap, approximately 100m past Victoria Lake, you will be directed left through the trees onto central Village Green to enter

    the Finish Chute for the final push to the finish line.

  • Aid stations will serve water and PURE Nutrition isotonic drink in paper cups (no sponges, coke

    or bottles). Aid stations will also feature first aid and toilets.

    Aid Stations will be at the following positions and corresponding K marks:

    Rolleston Ave: 11k

    Chester St East: 3k 13.5k

    Peterborough St: 6k 16.5k 2

    Hagley Park West: 8.5k 19k

    Drink Station Lay Out

    Drink Stations will be set up in order of Energy Drink, then Water, then Full Marathon Special Drinks. There will be space between each table. Marshals will hand out drinks as much as possible, but it gets busy so be prepared to grab a cup from a table. Please be prepared to stop for your drink if it is busy.
